What if I’m not undetectable?

We live in a country right now where everything has to be immediate.

I’m supposed to be undetectable immediately, right? That’s not always the case. Don’t compare yourself to your friend. Go on your own journey and realize that it may take a little bit of time before you get to undetectable. But the benefits are happening.

It’s slowing down the HIV, the inflammation is going down, your immune system is getting stronger. So just be encouraged with that and try to reach that goal of undetectable but realize in the process of that you are getting better.

As long as you start physically feeling better, as long as you’re doing everything you need to do, just keep the faith, be affirmed, and stay the course.

Dr. David Malebranche, MD, MPH, a clinician-researcher specializing in HIV, gives the lowdown on all things HIV care and treatment in the latest installment of the #AskTheHIVDoc video series.

#AskTheHIVDoc is a video series from Greater Than HIV featuring top HIV doctors providing answers to commonly-asked questions about HIV prevention, testing and treatment.
