I don’t feel sick. Do I still need HIV treatment?

If you go to see your provider, you start medication, the antiretrovirals, you’re thinking to yourself ok, I’m starting to feel better, my labs are looking good.

Don’t think that that’s just by itself, that you picked yourself up by itself. In that case, the medication is actually working. So, think of it that way. Like hey if I’m feeling good right now this is actually the medication doing its thing.

So, keep taking the medication because the medication is what’s keeping the virus down. It’s keeping your energy levels good and thriving.

So, use that incentive to keep taking the medication because that’s what you really need.

Dr. David Malebranche, MD, MPH, a clinician-researcher specializing in HIV, gives the lowdown on all things HIV care and treatment in the latest installment of the #AskTheHIVDoc video series.
