How do I know if I was tested for STDs?

I’m Dr. Flash and I’m here to answer your questions about sexual health.

Sometimes, when people go to the doctor and they get a bunch of tests done, they say, “Well, they tested me for everything.”

And I’ll say, “Well, you have to be pretty focused on what you’re testing.” Unless they said to you that they’re testing you for HIV and other STDs, it may not have happened.

This is why it’s important for patients to do things like look at the list of blood work that you got and understand what’s happening. Ask about the different tests, ask about the results, make sure you understand.
