So PrEP is an acronym actually, for pre-exposure prophylaxis. Long word.
There are two forms of PrEP currently available in the US. That is, oral PrEP and injectable PrEP. The oral PrEP is a pill that you take once a day to prevent you from contracting HIV. The injectable PrEP, you take it every two months.
PEP for HIV is another acronym, stands for post-exposure prophylaxis, which is a medication that you can take within 72 hours after a sexual encounter. You take it for up to 28 days, and then you go and you get retested again.
PrEP may be an option if you find yourself in need of accessing PEP.
