For people that say, “Oh, that’s not me, I’m not that kind of person, I’m not going to worry about that.” You never know until it happens to you, right?
It’s important to know that STIs, just like HIV, are treatable and most of them are curable.
We always recommend for people to get tested for gonorrhea, for chlamydia, for syphilis. And remember, right, that whatever body part you’re using for sex, those are the body parts that you want to get tested.
You can get an STI not only in your penis or your vagina, right, or your anus, you can also get it in your mouth. So if you’re going to be having sex, and you’re going to be using different body parts, you want to get those areas tested as well.
There can be swabs, there can be urine samples, or even blood samples at times.
If your physician is not ordering all the different types of tests, you might want to tell them that, “Hey, I’m also using my mouth for sex,” or “I’m also using this other body part for sex…” so they can be able to test those areas.
