Since 2011, Greater Than AIDS and Walgreens have teamed up with health departments and local AIDS service organizations to provide FREE HIV testing in the days leading up to National HIV Testing Day (June 27). Over 30,000 HIV tests have been administered cumulatively at Walgreens/Greater Than AIDS-sponsored testing events across the nation.
The activation is part of an ongoing effort between Greater Than AIDS and Walgreens to broaden the reach of HIV information and testing in non-traditional settings and to support local organizations’ outreach efforts.
Throughout the year, Walgreens and Greater Than AIDS distribute informational HIV resources at Walgreens stores with pharmacists on hand to offer one-on-one medication counseling and other support services that provide customers living with HIV/AIDS – and their families – with compassionate, confidential care.
I Got Tested: What’s Next?, a new online resource from Greater Than AIDS designed for mobile-phone accessibility, provides additional information about HIV testing and staying healthy, regardless of HIV status.
Some Walgreens locations also work with local partners to provide year round testing. In Virginia, for example, the Department of Health, is testing with Walgreens in stores in nearly 30 cities. For a complete list of participating stores in Virginia, click here.
FREE or low cost HIV testing is available in most cities year round. For a HIV testing and other services in your area, visit the AIDS.gov locator.
